Nachchiar Koil is one of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Sriman Narayana, located 10 kms from Kumbakonam in Tamilnadu. The very name “Nachchiar Koil” (meaning temple of Goddess) proves that the theme of emprovement of women is not new but has been practiced by the Lord Himself since long lime. More importance is given to Goddess Vanjulavalli in this temple in all rituals. The Kal (stone) Garudan here, instrumental in bringing Lord Sriman Narayana to this place to marry Goddess Vanjulavalli has been bestowed with special honours by the divine couple Vanjulavalli and Nambi. People worshipping Kal (stone) Garudan for seven Thursdays continually with faith get their desires fulfilled. lt is no wonder that pilgrims are thronging this shrine. But they are put to difficulties for want of place to slay here.
