As part of the ongoing Brahmotsavam at Sri Varadaraja Perumal Thirukkoil, Kanchipuram, Thotti Thirumanjanam took place today morning, May 29th, 2013; Wednesday. Today is Day 8 of the utsavam.

There was no purappadu in the morning as our Varadar had Thirupatham jadi thirumanjanam / thotti thirumanjanam.

This is a very sampradayic function.

All the holy rivers are invoked in a silver gangalam and starting with Varadar followed by Sridevi and Bhudevi are carried and lowered in the gangalam so that thier thiruvadi are under water.

This tradition/event is very unique and is not part of Brahmotsavam in other temples, the only exception being Ahobilam (lower), who incidentally happens to be Varadar.

While their is no fun fare like the other days, it is adequatly compensated by the following rare sights.

  • Devathirajan would sport urdhava pundaram, genarally on all the other days he would have only a tilakam.
  • Perarulalan would be wearing pancha kachham.
  • Could get a glimpse of udhaya naachimar.

The following is a video taken during the utsavam today…
