The 746th celebrations of Sri Vedantha Desikan started auspiciously today, October 7, 2013 at Ul Desikan Sannidhi Srirangam. Today, Vijaya varusha Purattasi Swathi at 3 pm Swami Desikan’s Tirunakshatra Mahotsavam began with Veda and Divya Prabhandha parayanam. It being the first day, the first Thousand or Mudalayiram was recited after Thirupallandu.
Beautiful kolams were made all around Sri Desikan Sannidhi and Thayar Sannidhi. It is the 3rd day of Navarathri utsavam for Ranganachiyar. During Navarathri devotees do 12 pradakshinams at Thayar Sannidhi between 9 am and 12 noon. In the evening at 5.30 pm, Thayar Purappadu took place and it was a blessing to see Her giving her divya kataksham to everyone. It was Ranganachiyar who conferred the title Sarvatantra Swatantran on Swami Desikan. It is as if Jaganmatha wants to rejoice in the Thirunakshatram celebrations of Swami Desikan. In Srirangam no utsavam or Purrappadu is done at the time Perumal or Thayar utsavam takes place. So Swami Desikan utsavam concluded by 4.30 pm. Swami was resplendent in the new crown and Karnapathram, ornaments offered by the devotee who offered Abhaya Hastham for Swami about a month back. Theertham, Sri Sathari and prasada viniyogam (Pulihore and Kesari) were given to all the devotees present. Special Maryadhai was done to the Ubhayakarthas. One of the sponsors gave dakshinai of Rs 10 each to the parayanakaras. We pray to Sri Malolan and Srimath Azhagiyasingar for proper conducting of the Mahotsavam. Jaya Jaya Desika! Nigamantha Desika! May Thee live another 100 years!
