Nandana which is placed 26th in our 60-year cycle. Nandana is among the diverse characteristic names (नामानि गौणानि)
of the Lord ~~ आनन्दो नन्दनो नन्द: सत्यधर्मा त्रिविक्रम: ।
The auspicious number 26 signifies Lord who animates the twenty-five “tattva” (தத்வம், तत्त्वम्) and is the primary source and substance (प्रधानम् / निदानम्) and shelter (परं निधानम्) of all being. प्रधानपुरुषेश्वर: (Sahasra-naamam), त्वमस्य विश्वस्य परं निधानम् (Srimad Bhagavad-Geetaa), गुणा: प्रधानम् पुरुष: परंपदम् — ते विभूतय: (श्री यामुनार्य – ஆளவந்தார்).
The New Year Day is known as “vishuva punya-kaalam” (विषुव पुण्यकालम् ~ same as बिहु in Assam), and carries this year the asterism of poorva-aashaadham (பூராடம், पूर्वाषाढम् ) on Friday of month Chitra / mesham, and corresponds to the Gregorian April 13 2012. The New Year brings the promise of the earth being unceasingly, richly, fruitful ~ आनन्ददा धरा/जस्रं प्रजाभ्य: फलसंचयै:।
Time is identified with Sriman Narayana, and the Padma Puraanam declares that the twelve months go by the Lord’s twelve names beginning Keshava. The five strands (पञ्चाङ्गम् ) of the day’s span are, each, marked out as Vishnu ~~
तिथिर्विष्णुस्तथा वारो नक्षत्रं विष्णुरेव च । योगश्च करणं चैव सर्वं विष्णुमयं जगत् ।।
(திதி விஷ்ணுவாகும். கிழமையும், நக்ஷத்ரமும் விஷ்ணுவே. யோகமும் கரணமும் , அவ்வாறே அனைத்துலகும், விஷ்ணுமயமானதே.)
