Devotees throng Srirangam on ‘Alum pallakku’ festival

TIRUCHI, April 23, 2012

A large number of devotees offered worship to Namperumal on the occasion of ‘Alum pallakku’ festival – the final leg of the Chithirai car festival at Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy temple on Sunday.

Decorated with flowers, Namperumal was taken from the sanctum sanctorum about 3 p.m. The processional archa-vigraha was taken to Garuda Mandapam first and later to Vahana mandapam.

The rituals associated with ‘Alum pallakku’ commenced with Namperumal being taken around the Chithirai streets.

The Chithirai car festival, also known as ‘Viruppan tirunal’, commenced on April 12. The car festival was held on April 20.
