The three-day annual Salakatla Pavitrotsavams commenced in Tirumala temple on a religious note with Pavitra Homam being performed at Yagashala inside hill shrine on Sunday morning. This ritual was followed by Snapana Tirumanjanam programme which lasted for about two hours where in the processional archa murthis of Lord Malayappa Swamy accompanied by His two Consorts were rendered celestial bath with sandal paste, turmeric, milk, curd and honey. While in the evening the processional deities took a pleasure ride around the four mada streets blessing the pilgrim devotees who converged to witness the grandeur of Malayappa draped in dazzling gold and diamond jewels. TTD has cancelled arjitha sevas like Kalyanotsavam, Unjal Seva, Arjitha Brahmotsavam, Vasanthotsavam and Sahasradeeplankara Seva in connection with this annual festival on Sunday in Srivari Temple.
