Salakatla Brahmotsavam at Tirumala begins

Salakatla  Brahmotsavam of Sri Venkateswara swamy , Tirumala begins today with dwajarohanam.  Salakatla Brahmotsavam (Adhika maasa brahmotsavam) is 9 – day event held during the year in which Adhika masam occur according to lunar calendar.

Ankurarpanam’ ritual has been performed with religious fervour in the hill temple of Tirumala on Monday (17/09/2012) evening. As a prelude to the annual salakatla brahmotsavams, Ankurarpanam or the “sacred seed sowing ritual” is performed at 7pm in Tirumala where in nine types of holy seeds in earthen containers have been sowed in holy soil (Mrisangrahana). This ritual signifies the beginning of festival in the temple. This is followed by recital of vedic hymns. Earlier the commander-in-chief (senadhipathi )of Lord Venkateswara, Sri Vishwaksena Swamy is adorned with precious jewel and has been taken around the four mada streets in a grand procession. It signifies swamy Vishwasena is inspecting the arrangements for conducting the brahmostavams. The celestial warrior has invited all the three crore deities to take part in the nine-day mega religious event of his Supremo Master.

Dwajarohanam sumuhurtham is today 18/09/2012 , meena lagnam ( from 6 pm to 6:30 pm). Then pedda Sesha vahanam will be held from 9 pm to 11 pm.
