The Kodandarama Temple is situated in Hiremagalur, which is a town in the Chikkamagalur district.

The sanctum sanctorum is built in the Hoysala style. Later portions were added in 14th century and are as per Dravidian style. Words fail to explain the beauty of the idols of Lord Rama his consort Sita to the right and brother Lakshmana to the left. All credit goes to the sculptor. All credit goes to the sculptor.According to the sthalapurana, proud Purushothama (a devotee) was subdued at this place by Lord Sri Ramachandra. Purushothama requested Sri Rama to show him the scene of His (Rama’s) marriage.

Therefore  Seetha stands to Rama’s right side and Lakshmana to his left.  Perhaps this is the only temple where Seetha and Lakshmana are positioned like this.  A jathra of Kodandarama temple is held for one day about (February-March) of every year. The temple has a fine pond nearby which is now dry. The temple of Kodandarama, which is State protected, stands to the south-east of the village called Bhargavapuri also known as Siddha-Pushkarni.

How to reach there

Chikkamagalur is located at a distance of 250 km from Bangalore. Get a bus to Chikkamagalur, and from there, you can take a bus to Hiremagalur.
