His Holiness, the 45th Jeer of Sri Ahobila Muth, Srimathe Sri Lakshminrisimha Divya Paduka Sevaka Srivan Satagopa Sri Narayana Yathindra Maha Desikan, ascended to Paramapadham at 12:05 AM Indian Time, Sunday May 19th 2013 at Srirangam.

Loss of one’s AchAryan is a cause for immense personal sorrow . In the case of a SadaachAryan like Srimad NarayaNa Yateendra MahA Desikan, who has done so much for so many for so long , it is impossible to contain the grief except through the repeated recitation of His Taniyan and reflection on His vAtsalyam towards His sishyAs , AchAram , anushtAnam , Tapas , VairAghyam , AchArya Bhakti to His own AchAryAs , adoration of Malolan and Dolai KaNNan , Mata NirvAha Saamarthyam , upanyAsa saili and other limitless GuNAdhisayams .

Our Azhagiyasingar belonged to the Nallan Chakravarthi Vamsam celebrated by ThiruvengadamudayAn Himself, who performed TadheeyArAdhanam during His KalyANa MahOtsavam with PadmAvati ThAyAr at AHOBILAM , the Periya Periya PerumAL . Our dear Azhagyiasingar’s upliftment of facities and services at all the dhivya desa sannidhis , where SrI Matam has ArAdhana MirAsu is extraordinary . For instance , at ThiruveLLUr , the nirvAham of this dhivya dEsam was handed over to the 31st Pattam Srimath Azhagiyasingar in the year 1842 C.E. since that time successive Azhagiyasingars have improved the vibhUti ( Iswaryam ) of Sri Vasumati samEta Sri Vaidhya VeerarAghavan . As the 45 th Pattam Srimath Azhagiyasingar , Sri NaarAyaNa Yateendhra MahA Desikan paid speical attention to the dhivya dEsam with FIVE BrundhAvanams including that of His own KaalakshEpa AchAryan ,
Srimath Injimedu Azhagiyasingar . The building of a brand new Matam there , the samarpaNam of a new tEr and precious AbharaNams are some of the instances of Kaimakryam there . At PuLLambhtangudi and AdanUr dhivya dEsams administered by SrI Matam , there are Five more BrundhAvanams including that of the Ahnika Granta Karta , the 26th Pattam , Sriranganatha Yateendhra MahA Desikan . The BrundhAvanam of the 16th Pattam Srimath Azhagiyasingar is behind the western temple walls of the EmperumAn of PuLLambhUtamkudi . KaNNadi aRai , Nootana Vaahana samarpaNaKaimakryams and RatnAngi kaimakryams were completed here . NityArAdhana tittams were conceived and implemented here and at so many other temples belonging to SrI Matam .

The foresight and planning to realize easy access to the AhObila Kshetram and the Nava Narasimha Sannidhis there are exemplary of the approach of a visionary . Thanks to all those completed Kaimkaryams , thousands of SishyAs and local residents throng to AhoBilam and Visit the various sannidhis without the troubles encountered by Thirumangai AzhwAr .

From one corner of India to the other, Our AchAryan has performed MangaLAsAsanam at the dhivya desams and abhimAna stalams .
He has gone on sanchAram with MaloLan three times from HimAlayAs to KanyAkumAri . When one realizes the “ impossible” logistics of planning and executing these many sanchArams to bless the sishyAs with SamASraya/BharanyAsam as per the original command of MalOlan , one shudders . Some times the ChAthurmAsyams took place at the dhivya desams like ThiruppullANi , Srirangam , PuLLambhUtangudi et al. SishyAs and abhimAnis thronged there to be close to their AchAryan .

The fundamantal belief that we have towards our AchAryans is expressed by this slOka vaakyams :

yE naiva guruNA yasya nyAsavidhyA pradheeyate
Tasya VaikunTha dughdhABdhi DwArakAs-sarva yEva sa:

This slOkam states that the AchAryan , who blessed the Sishyan with nyAsa vidhyA is Veritable VaikunTham , dhwArakA and the milky Ocean . That AchAryan is every sacred place.

Manu Smruti stresses the importance of Vandhanams for AchAryans , who bless us with MokshOpakaraNa vidhya ( Adadheeta yatO Jn~Anam tamm poorvamabhivAdayEt ). BhardwAja samhitA Vaakyam states that the one dear to AchAryan and the sishyan , who adores the AchAryan will gain Moksham (ParamamAm Siddhi) undoubtedly :

guruNA yOabhimanyEta Gurum vaa yOabhimanyatE
taavubhou paramAm siddhim niyamAdupagacchata:

The importance of AchArya SamBhandham has been emphasized in Srutis , Smrutis , itihAsams and PurANams . All of us have the
blessings of SadAchArya SamBandham . That sambhandham elevated KshatraBandhu , PuNDareekan and they became “AchAryavaan” and enjoyed Moksha SaamrAjyam :

paapishDa: KshatraBandhusccha PuNDareekasccha puNyakrut
Acharyavattayaa muktou TasmAdhAchAryavaan bhavEt —Rahasya Traya Saaram

It is thru AchArya KadAksham that we gain every soubhAgyam ( AchAryasya prasAdhEna GurOranugrahENaiva PumAn PoorNa PrajAyatE ). Swamy Desikan has revealed that there is no one , who is greater or equal to our AchAryans ( AchryAdhiha dEvatAm samAdhikAm anyAm na manyAmahE ). Sri NaarAyaNa Yateendhra MahA Desikan , who has ascended to Parama Padham today is such a SrEshtAchAryan of ours .

AdiyEn concludes this AchArya vandanam andsmaraNam on the forst day of His ascent to Sri VaikunTham with a paasuram from Swamy NammAzhwAr ( ThiruvAimozhi: 8.3.10 : Kalakkamillaa naltava munivar karai KaNDOr—) . The paasuram performs this upadEsam through SaThakOpa Maa Muni : “ AchAryAs with unmuddled knowledge known for their authentic penance perform MangaLAsAsanam to the Lord , who churned once the milky ocean with great energy to produce nectar . AchAryAs on a par with the nitya Suris and mukta jeevAs serve the Lord on this earth with joy. Please tell me how to eulogize that Lord to His full satisfaction and gain freedom form all of my samsAric afflictions.”
