About the temple:

Located 8 km south of Chengalpet, Sri Kothandaramar temple at Pon Vilainda Kalathur or PV Kalathur is over 700 years old. It is said that Sri Thoopul Nigamantha Mahadesikan (Swami Desikan) once passed through this village on his way to Thiruvahindrapuram.

The Dharbhasayana Sethuramar Sannidhi was installed in the Sri Kothandaramasamy Temple in the recent times in the 20th century. The Urchava Vigraham – Sri Ramar was found in the well within the temple precincts and the same fact was revealed in the dreams of one of the devotees in Kalathur. The vigraham has inscription – “Danushkoti Ramar” in the kireetam.  The Moolavar of Dharbhasayana Sethuramar was installed by the grandsons of Selam Vijayaraghavachariyar (noted freedom fighter) and the samprokshanam was performed by His Holiness The 44th Jeeyar of Sri Ahobila Mutt.  The Kothandaramar Koil contains sannidhis for Sri Pattabhiramar (main sannidhi), Sri Srinivasar with Sridevi and Boodhevi, Thayar Sannidhi, Alwargal Sannidhi.
