During the month of August this year, two key festivals will be celebrated in a grand manner at Srirangam. The first is Pathinettam Perukku (or Aadi 18). This will be celebrated on August 3, 2013 (Saturday). During this utsavam, Namperumal purappadu in swarna pallakku (golden palanquin) will take place from moolasthanam to Amma Mandapam at between 6 am to 11:30 am. At Amma Mandapam, there will be alankaram and amudu saydal for Namperumal at 4 pm followed by offering of garland to Kaveri Thayar at 4:45 pm. Purappadu from Amma Mandapam will take place at 8:30 pm to Veli Andal Sannadhi where Malai matrum utsavam will take place. Thereafter, Namperumal will return to moolasthanam.
The second utsavam is Sri Jayanthi. This utsavam will be celebrated for two days – August 29th and 30th, 2013 (Vijaya Varusha Avani Masam 13 and 14). On August 29th, Namperumal’s purappadu from moolasthanam Sripandaram Asthana Mandapam will take place at 10-10:30 am. Thirumanjanam will take place at this mandapam from 11 am to 2 pm. Sevarthis will have darsanam till 5.45 pm after alankaram. Thereafter, Namperumal will return to moolasthanam.
On August 30th, Sri Krishnan Purappadu will take place at 7.15 am. After yennai (oil) villayattu in the Chitrai veedis, Sri Krishnan returns to sannadhi at 9 am. In the evening at 4 pm, purappadu of Namperumal and ubhayanachiyars to Yadava Uri Adi Asthana Mandapam. Purapaddu from this mandapam will take place at 7.30 pm and uri adi will take place at 8.45 pm. Finally, perumal and nachiyars will return to moolasthanam at 9 pm.
