Today September 15, 2013; Vijaya Varusha Aavani Uthiradam, is Day 56 of HH 46th Srimath Azhagiyasingar, Srivan Sathakopa Sri Ranganatha Yathindra Maha Desikan’s Chathurmasya sankalpam.
It is an Ekadasi day and a Sunday so the devotees at Sri Matham was more than usual. Many had a dip in Cauvery/Kollidam as a bath in a punya theertham is recommended. The water is all the more purified by Srimath Azhagiyasingar who goes to Kollidam early every morning. Theertham, Srisathari and prasada (arisi upma) viniyogam took place on time and four shishyas had Samashrayanam and Mantropadesam. Today, malai mariyadai for HH Srimath Azhagiyasingar arrived from Nanganallur Sri Lakshmi Hayavadhana Perumal Temple.
Today is the Masa Thirunakshatram of Sri Alavandar, also known as Yamunacharya (varusha Thirunakshatram – Aadi Uthiradam). Yamunacharya, who took avatharam at Veeranarayanapuram, is the grand-Acharya (pracharya) of Ramanujacharya. Sri Alavandar is one of the foremost Sri Vaishnava Acharyas. He was the grandson of Sriman Nathamunigal and a sishya of Sri Manakkal Nambi. Sri Manakkal Nambi (also known as Rama Mishrar), carrying out his Guru Sri UyyaKondar’s orders, brought Sri Alavandar into Sri Vaishnava Acharya lineage. Sri Alavandar established the principles of VisishtAdhvaita as an expansion of the doctrines housed in his grandfather’s (Nathamunigal) treatises and elaborated on those doctrines with authoritative scriptures such as Sruthis, Bhagavadh Gita, AzhwAr’s pAsurams and selected Satvika Puranas. He is the one who composed the earliest Stotras of Srivaishnava Sampradayam. He is the main reason behind bringing Swami Ramanujar (Emperumanar) into Sri Vaishnava fold, even though he did not teach Swami Ramanujar directly. He noticed Swami Ramanujar, doing service to Sri YadavaPrakasar and prayed Sri Varadaraja Perumal (Kanchipuram) to make Swami Ramanujar come into Sri Vaishnava fold and spread Sri Vishishtadvaitam philosophical doctrine. His famous sishyas include Periya Nambi, Thiru Koshtiyur Nambi and Thiru Malai Andaan.
Today is also the Masa Thirunakshatram of Injimedu Azhagiyasingar. HH 42nd Srimath Azhagiyasingar took avatharam in Bahudhanya varusham Thai Uthiradam (January 21, 1879). Sanyasa ashramam was accepted in Sukla Varusham Chittirai (April 1929). HH’s Pattabhishekam took place in Vishu Varusham, 8th day of Aippasi, Sukla Panchami (October 24,1941). Paramapadaprapthi was Nandana varusham, 18th day of Maasi, Krishna Pratami (March 1,1953). Asthana kalam was 23 years and 10 months. Brindavanam is at Thiruvallur.
It may be noted that tomorrow (September 16, 2013) is Sravanam Dwadasi. It is usual to fast on Ekadasi and do Paaranai (break the fasting) on dwadasi thithi. But during the Sravana Dwadasi which is very auspicious and occurs once year, it is recommended to perform fasting on that Sravana Dwadasi day and do Paaranai on trayodasi, the next day. For this year (Vijaya varusham):
- Ekadasi – Sunday September 15, 2013 [You may fast, if u can fast for two consecutive days; otherwise just fast on the next day]
- Sravanam Dwadasi – Monday September 16, 2013 [Fasting is highly recommended]
- Sravanam Trayodasi – Tuesday, September 17, 2013 [Do the paaranai]
Tomorrow is very auspicious as it also happens to be Sri Hayagriva Jayanthi and Sri Vamana Jayanthi.
