Pavithrotsavam at Srirangam Sri Ranganathar Thirukkoil Commences

The 9-day annual Pavithrotsavam for this Vijaya Varusham commenced today (September 15, 2013).  The utsavam will conclude on September 23, 2012 with Poornahuti. Today is also an Ekadasi day.

During this utsavam, today, Namperumal purappadu took place from moolasthanam to Yaga Salai  between 9:15 am to 9:45 am. At 10:30, Thiruvaradhanam began. In the evening at 5 pm, Thirunamjanam took place. After alankaram and other things, Namperumal will return to moolasthanam at 10 pm.

On the second day of the utsavam (September 16, 2013), Thiruvaradhanam for Namperumal will commence at 7 am at Yaga Salai followed by Moolasthanam Thiruvaradhanam at 10 am. Namperumal purappadu from Moolasthanam to Thirupavithrotsava Mandapam will take place at 8 pm. After alankaram and other things, Namperumal will return to moolasthanam at 10:15 pm.

During Days 3 to 6 (September 17-20, 2013), Namperumal purappadu will take place from moolasthanam to Thirupavithrotsava Mandapam between 5:30 pm to 6 pm. After alankaram and other things at 8:45 pm, Namperumal will return to moolasthanam at 9:15 pm.

On Day 7 (September 21, 2013), Namperumal along with Ubhaya Nachiyars will have purappadu from moolasthanam at 7 pm. At 7:30, ‘Nel Alavu Kandarulal’ will take place. Namperumal personally inspects the granary and witnesses the measurement of paddy that have accrued. The quantity of paddy also symbolises the prosperity of the kingdom. Namperumal with Ubhaya Nachiyars has purappadu to Thiru Kottaram, West of the Garuda Sannidhi. Here, the ‘Nel Alavu’ display event is enacted with representatives of Namperumal measuring and displaying to the Lord the the available paddy following which the representatives shout out the next measurements thus informing Namperumal that all was well in the region. Thereafter, Namperumal would make His way to the Northern Entrance of the temple to meet with and have darshan of Ranganayaki Thayar, who will present the Lord with Thiruvanthikapu as a measure of protecting the Namperumal from Drishti. After this, Namperumal will return to moolasthanam at 9 pm.

On Day 8 (September 22, 2013), Namperumal purappadu will take place from moolasthanam to Thirupavithrotsava Mandapam between 5:30 pm to 6 pm. After alankaram and other things at 8:45 pm, Namperumal will return to moolasthanam at 9:15 pm.

On Day 9 (September 23, 2013), which is the concluding day of the utsavam, Namperumal purappadu will take place from moolasthanam at 5:30 pm. After theerthavari at Chandra Pushkarani at 6 pm, purappadu to Thirupavithrotsava Mandapam will take place. Thirumanjanam will take place at this mandapam at 8:45 pm and devotees could have sevai at 9:15 pm. Namperumal will return to moolasthanam and Vathula Desikar Thirupavithra Brahmaratha Mariyadai will take place marking the conclusion of the Pavithrotsavam.

    • it is celebrated to purify the dosham created in the daily course of pooja.it can be anything. Like mantra pronunciation and so on. the Pavitra mala are offered to moolavar and namperumal(utsavar)
