Yesterday, October 4th 2013; Vijaya Purattasi Uthiram, Mahalaya Amavasya was an auspicious day. Everyone was busy setting up ” Golu” as Navarathri celebrations will began yesterday. On this auspicious day, the 634th Thirunakshatram celebrations of Srimath Adivan Sathakopa Yathindra Mahadesikan started at 3 pm at Sri Ahobila Mutt, Srirangam. After Sankalpam, Thirupallandu was recited while standing. Theertham, Sri Sathari and coconut pieces were given to those assembled and then Mudal aayiram parayanam was done sitting. Mudal Aayiram refers to the first thousand verses of Divya Prabhandham comprising of
- Periazhwar Tirumozhi
- Nachiyar Tirumozhi
- Perumal Tirumozhi
- Tiruchhandha Virrutham
- Amalanadhipiran and
- Kanninum Siruthambu
While Divya Prabhandham was chanted, Veda Parayanam was done. At the conclusion Satrumurai was done and the Ubhayakarthas were honoured. Theertham, SriSathari and Prasada viniyogam (kesari and arisi upma) were done.
The debt we owe to Srimath Adivan Sathakopan Swami can never be repayed. The great Ahobila Mutt tradition was bequeathed by this Srimath Azhagiyasingar. Swami took avatharam at Thirunarayana Mahakshetram in the illustrous Atreya gothram. Kidambis have a significant role in the history of SriVaishnavam. It was Kidambi Aachan, who did bhiksha kainkaryam for Bhagavath Ramanuja. Swami Desikan’s guru was swami’s mama Kidambi Appular and Srinivasacharya (Poorvacharya tirunamam of Adivan Sathakopa jeer) also took avatharam as the son of Kidambi Kesavachariar. The upakaram done by our 1st Srimath Azhagiyasingar is too many to be listed. But we will be failing in our duty if we do not remember them, so during the 634th Thirunakshatram celebrations at Srirangam Ahobila Mutt we will try to do some justice to His Greatness and Compassion.
