Swami Desikan’s vivaham with Tirumangai took place according to the niyamanam of Kidambi Appular. Appular taught his nephew Garuda manthram as a rakshai. Swami Desikan lived in Perumal Koil in the service of Varadan and bhaghavathas imparting basic and vishesha sastrams to many shisyas. When Kidambi Appular was about to shed his mortal coils he gave Swami Desikan Sri Ramanuja’s padhukas. Swami Desikan worshipped them regularly. Appular attained paramapadham and Swami Desikan continued Grantha Kalakshepam. Swami wanted to do japam of the Vainetheya manthram taught by Appular. So Swami went to Tiruvehndipuram and after worshipping Senkamallavali and Devanatha Perumal, Swami started Vainatheya Japam on Aushadhagiri. Vainatheyam became pratyaksham and imparted Hayagriva Mantram. Swami did Hayagriva mantra japam and Hayagriva Swami blessed Swami and all Vidyas stood before Swami Desikan and Swami attained proficiency in all Vidyas. As a mark of gratitude to Hayagriva Perumal Swami’s first composition was Sri Hayagriva Stotram followed by Garuda Panchasath. Devanayaka Panchasath, Achutha Sathakam, Mummani kovai, Navamani malai are some stotrams on Devanatha Perumal. Paramatha Bhangam and Raghuveera Gadyam and Gopala Vimsathi were composed at Tiruvahndipuram. Swami next moved to Perumal koil.
