Today October 16, 2013; Vijaya Purattasi Purattadhi, was Day 10 of Swami Desikan’s 746th Thirunakshatra Mahotsavam at Ul Desikan Sannidhi Srirangam. At 8 am, the Sanskrit stotrams of Swami Desikan were chanted in chorus. While the beginning, important and last slokams of the big stotrams were said, the complete anusandhanam of other stotrams were done. By the time Satrumurai, Theertham, Sri Sathari and Prasada Viniyogam (Kadamba sadam) was done, it was 12 noon. Earlier at 8:15 am, monthly Purattadhi Thirumanjanam was done for HH 41st Srimath Azhagiyasingar at Dasavatharan Sannidhi. The Brindavanam of HH 45th Srimath Azhagiyasingar is progressing steadily.
In continuation of Desikanubhavam, Swami spent all his time in creating stotrams, giving kalakshepams and doing everything to continue Ramanuja Sampradhayam and put it on a firm footing.
Before the recital of Desika Stotrams “Sriman Venkatanatharya …..” is chanted. Each stotram of Swami Desikan is unique and contains the essentials of Vishishtadvaitha and is effective. Swami’s Paduka Sahasram is a wonder that was created in one night as a challenge to create 1000 slokams in a single night. The subject Swami chose was Sri Ranganatha’s divya ManiPaduka. Swami created several other works like Munivahana Bhogham, Madhurakavi Hridyam, Aahara Niyamam to name a few. In Nala varusham Avani Rohini day, Swami was blessed with a putra ratnam who was named Varadan who was later on known as Kumara Varadachar. Swami’s greatness generated lot of jealousies among scholars. Saddened Swami moved to Sathyamangalam and blessed shishyas with kalakshepas. Swami returned to Srirangam with Perarularar Jeeyar. It was this Jeeyar who was named “Brahmatantra Jeeyar”. At that time, Srirangam was attacked by muslims and Swami Desikan was entrusted with “Shrutha Prakashika” and the two sons of Sudarshana Bhattar. Swami braved his way to Satyamangalam by lying amongst corpses and saved the grantham and the boys. Swami visited Thirunarayanapuram and it was here that Ramanuja Dayapatram was born on Bahudanya Avani Hastham day. It was here that Swami wrote Nava, nava, bhogham about Thirunarayanapuram.
When Srirangam started functioning again after Namperumal’s return and nitya utsavams were resumed Swami returned to Srirangam and did nityavasam there. While in Srirangam, Swami was called to do prathistai of Govindaraja Perumal at Chidambaram. Swami did this using the services of Gopannaraya of Senchi. Swami was responsible for the revival of Adhyayana Utsavam in Srirangam temple. Swami’s Magnum Opus Srimadh Rahasyatrayasaram was created in Srirangam as also Virodha Pariharam, Sara Deepam and Prabhandha Saram among others. At the age of 100, Swami was challenged by a shilpi to sculpt his own vigraham which Swami did to perfection. In Soumya varusham Kathigai month Poornima day, Swami handed over Perarulan and the shanku-chakra mudras to his Thirukumaran and Hayagrivamurthi to Brahmatantra Swatantra Jeeyar. In Swami Desika’s Thirumaligai at North Uthra Street, Swami placed His head on the lap of Kumara Varadacharya and His Thiruvadi on the lap of Brahmatantra Swatantra Jeeyar and with Appular Smarana ascended to Paramapadam.
