On January 14 and 15, 2014, Vijaya Varusha Makara Sankranthi and Kanu Pidi was celebrated at Sri Kothandaramaswamy Temple, Vaduvur. There was special alankaram and veedhi ula (procession) of Divya Dampathis on the Makara Sankranthi day. The festival is very apt for this village, as it is surrounded by miles of paddy fields on all the sides. The day marks the start of sun’s six-month long journey northwards or the Uttarayanam. On January 15th, Kanu Pidi was done in the Sarayu Pushkarni (temple tank). During the event at Vaduvur Temple, Thayar (Sita Pirati) was taken on procession to Sarayu Pushkarani to perform Kanu Pidi followed by ThirthaVaari. Sita Pirati performed Kanu Pidi for the better health and wealth of all her children, who are us, the devotees of Lord Rama.
