Today Vijaya Thai Revathi evening NamPerumal Purappadu happens on on Hamsa vahanam. He left from Vahana mantapam at 6.30p.m. and went round the four Uthira Veedhis. Uthira Veedhi has houses on one side as the other side we have the temple walls and the three entrances to the temple. As soon as the cracker is burst people get alert, the streets are sprinkled with cold water and beautiful kolams are made. Today there were Hamsa kolams with appropriate details.
All the houses are kept open and lamps are lit in some households to welcome RangaRaja who out of His Saulabhyam comes to the doorstep of devotees and even the old, the sick and infirm get His Darshan. Hamsa pakshi is talked about as having the capacity to separate milk and water. This bird symbolises Acharyas who grasp the essence and teach their shisyas. During purappadus vahanams seem to take precedence of Perumal even though He travels on them. Todays Hamsam looked great in colourful tiered silk and the Purappadu was led by Andal the temple elephant who is back from camp, followed by Hari the temple horse. The Divya prabhandham goshti and Veda Parayana goshti filled the air with their sonorous outpourings and NamPerumal looked at everyone around and assured them that He was there to Protect everyone.
