Yesterday, 4 March 2014, Vijaya, Masi Revathi. Dhavanotsavam took place beautifully at Poundarikapuram Srimad Andavan Ashramam, Sri Vedanta Desikar Sannadhi, East Utthira Veedhi, Srirangam. The utsavam started at 4.30 p.m. The whole place was decorated with Dhavanam. It is a green perfumed leaf which is Perumal’s favourite and grows in plenty during the Tamil month of Masi (February15th- March15th) and Dhavanotsavam is celebrated in several temples during this period . The beautiful golden coloured mandapam with Yoga Hayagrivar in the centre flanked by Garudazhwars in anjalihastham was coverd with green strands of dhavanam.
Lord Hayagriva and Andal were brought to the mandpam. Godha goshti opened the utsavam with Hayagriva stotram chanting while doing pradakshinam. Hayagriva and Andal were clothed in flowers with dhavanam dominating. Tirumangalya saradus were placed around Andal’s neck. Swami Desikan was seated at their feet drinking the beauty of the DivyaDampathis and listening to Stotras created by Swami. Dasavathara Stotram, Bhaghavadhyana Sopanam, Abhthisthavam, Varadaraja Panchasath, Vairagya Panchakam and Sri,Bhu and Godha Sthuthis were chanted in unison. After Mangala Harathi, Perumal theertham, SriSathari, Sharadus, dhavanam and prasadam(Mysore pak, Thenkuzhal and pulihore) were distributed. It was 6.15 p.m by the time the utsavam concludes. The whole function was conducted systematically adhering to strict achara norms.
