Vijaya Masi Punarpoosam, March 11th, 2014 SriRangam celebrated Theppa Tirunal. At 4.15 p.m.Nam Perumal left Moolasthanam with Ubhaya Nachimars. The Purappadu came via South and East Chitra Veedhi and took a left turn to proceed to Theppakulam situated on Melur Road. As we waited at the corner of East Chitra Veedhi the elephant Andal was spotted at about 5.00p,m. With ears swinging on both sides it made everyone alert ,then the two umbrellas were spotted and then the golden Prabhai with NamPerumal and two Nachimars. As the procession moved closer the visibilty grew better. Dandavath pranams were offered by bhakthas and everyone gasped on seeing the beauty of sakshath Manmatha Manmathan in Pandian kondai, Vimana padhakam and other accessories. The Nachimars had side kondai like Andal and jada alankaram on the long braid.They wore check silk pavadais. The Trio stopped on the way to accept ubhayams offered by devotees and reached Teppakula Asthana Mandapam by 5.30p.m.
The area around Theppakulam was festive with the smell of jackfruits permeating and vendors selling balloons ,ice-cream etc. After Puja at the mandapam and Theertham and SriSathari viniyogam at about 7.40p.m. NamPerumal adorned killi malai (a garland of parrots) and came in purappadu with Nachimars to the Theppam.Before NamPerumal’s entering all the puja samagri were kept ready , punyavachanam was done. Jeer Swami was waiting inside along with Bhattar swamis dressed with silk headgear for the Float.NamPerumal’s Ashva vahanam that is the golden horse was inside. Several men holding huge bamboos took their positions to push the Float. After making three rounds the Theppam was over. NamPerumal and Nachimars were brought to Mai Mandapam and left in Purappadu past 10.00p.m. It was 11.30 by the time they reached Moolasthanam.
