Yesterday, 4 May 2014,Jaya Chitrai Tiruvadhirai;is the beginning of Kodai Utsavam (poosathu Utsavam) at SriRangam, SriRanganathaswami temple. At 6.00p.m. NamPerumal left Moolasthanam in Purappadu. All the flower vendors of SrIRangam were urging people to buy flowers for Perumal.Flowers offered should be preferably knotted on plantain fibre. NamPerumal accepts every inch of flower offered to Him. He is dressed in cool white cotton veshti and saffron applied is visible, the ornaments are barely minimum and Vakula flowers(Mazhiam poo) are twisted to form a crown.. NamPerumal comes out of Arya Bhattal vasal and makes a right turn, then He  stops infront of SenKamalavalli Thayar where panagam and payathum paruppu offerings were made, then turning right NamPerumal stopped at MelaPattabhiramar sannidhi, next stop was infront of Kothanda Ramar Sannidhi next to Chandra Pushkarni.
Offerings are made at every stop.Turning right NamPerumal stopped at Kizha PattabhiRamar Sannidhi and after proceeding upto the end of Manalveli(Stretch of sand) an about turn was made and Perumal came to the four pillared mandapam. Soon the drums were sounded and the flower wraparound was carried on the head of a kainkaryapara whose nose was tied with a cloth(this is the practise when Perumal’s flower offerings are carried because we should not offer flowers that have been smelt.) All the flowers offered by devotees are placed on NamPerumal’s Tirumeni and then the flower wrap(shawl is tied ,rose water is sprinkled and NamPerumal is lifted up for everyone to see. This is known as Veli(outside)  kodai and takes place for five days. At about 8.00p.m. NamPerumal proceeds in purappadu and reaches Moolasthanam by 9.15p.m.
