Jaya Karthigai Revathi (2.12.2014) Kaisika Ekadashi day saw the commencement of Kaliyan’s Thirunakshatram celebrations at Srirangam Sri Dasavatharan Sannidhi.Dasavatharan sannidhi owes its existence to Thirumangai Azhwar. After completing the building of the rampart walls for SriRanganathaswami temple such was the joy of Periya Perumal that He wanted to reward Kaliyan.Make your wish said the Father of the universe ! After thinking for a moment Kaliyan said” adiyen desires to see the ten avatharams taken by Thee”.And…continued the azhwar who robbed the rich to do SriVaishnava thadeearadhanai and temple projects”let those who shed their mortal coils in Srirangam get moksham.” So be it, said Sriman Narayana and one by one He revealed His Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Vamana, Parasurama, Kodandarama, Balarama, Krishna and Kalki avatharas. Out of compassion Tirumangaiazhwar has left these Divyamangalamurthis for us.
As we enter SriDasavatharan sannidhi to our right is Kaliyan’s sannidhi. The Moolavar stands with folded hands thankful to Perumal for blessing him with the Dasavatharams He took. The utsavamurthi holds a sword in his hand and is a picture of bravery (Veeryam). The divyamangalamurthis match the beauty of the Dsavatharas.It is at Dasavatharan sannidhi that Kaliyan lived and completed several Tiruppanis. It was from this very place centuries later that Mukkur Srimadh Azhagiasingar stayed and completed the astounding Rajagopuram. Kaliyan’s Tirunakshatram is Karthigai Kritthikai which falls on 5.12.2014. The Utsavam started on the evening of 2.12.2014 with parayanam done by several swamis. Let us pay our respects to the Azhwar who gave us 86 out of the 108 divyadesams.
