On 4/2/2015 we went to meet swami and his sons at Dasvathara sannidhi at about 11.00a.m. Swami was outside washing his feet and doing achamanam. Swami had just finished eating and as we walked together to 45th Srimadh Azhagiasingar’s Brindavanam he told us that one should not sit or sleep immediately after eating. Walking a couple of yards after food aids digestion. Swami went on to elaborate on the importance of eating and sleeping within limits. Too much sleep and too much food are bad for health and dulls the intellect. It is important to ensure that belly-fat is not accumulated.
Meanwhile swami’s youngest son Ram Prasad (Sriram) came. He was supposed to give a small talk . Being a shy person he hurriedly spoke a few words. As adiyen asked question after question he opened up. Swami had his upanayanam when he was 8years old. He however began learning Sama vedam from his father when he was in the 6th standard. His father was a patient yet strict teacher. Swami would be woken up at 4.00 a.m. and had to say”Tiruvai” Tiruvai means that swami had to chant 9times what his father taught seeing the book and the 10th chanting was to be done without seeing the book. At 6.00 a.m. sandhyavandanam had to be done. AT 9.00 a.m. lessons would start again. These lessons were done in the “sandhai-mode” that is the guru would teach and the shishyan had to repeat the same twice. These lessons would last about an hour. Afternoon would be spent in practising what was learnt in the 9-10a.m. class. At 9.00p.m. “Tiruvai” would be repeated. This was how the learning proccess continued. See the results for yourself by listening to Purusha-suktham chanted by Ubha.Ve Devanathan swami, Ubha. Ve. Lakshminarasimhan swami and Ubha. Ve Ram Prasad swami in the Samam mode…………

Great series of articles – good work. One small suggestion – since the swami’s voice is very feeble, the recorder/accompanied could have maintained silence or move the mic (if external mic is used) quite close to swami would have improved the audio quality.
Requesting the team to do more such articles and expose sath vishayams and great personalities in future.
Swami is right. Shall do so in future. The feedback is appreciated.
