Ve Velkudi Krishnan swami’s upanyasam .20th February is Vidayatri when the last round of Laksharchanai will be done and vennai kaapu will be offered to Hanuman.
We have all heard the saying that ” the moorthi is small but the keerthi is big.” This is very true for this Anjaneyar. Periya Perumal’s sight falls on Him the first thing when He wakes up for like Arjuna, Anjaneya stands right at His Tiruvadi. He is the favourite of the residents of Srirangam in general and the East Uthira veedhi in particular. So every year in Maasi (between February14th and March 14th) there is an utsavam for five days followed by Vidayatri on the 6th day. Devotees participate wholeheartedly in the laksharchanai done in the morning and evening. Women did kainkaryam of separating Tulasi leaves from the stem for performing archanai. Prasadam offerings are sumptuous and range from several chitra-annams, sakkarai pongal, kalkandu sadam, sundals of different kinds and vadamalas were offered daily.
On 19th after Tirumanjanam at 2.30p.m. there was laksharchana followed by a variety of prasadam offerings. Hanuman was covered with flower garlands, vada malai and a big jangiri malai. Madhuparkam, navaneetham, pulihore, crunchy jaggery boondis, vadas, jangiri and thayirsadam were distributed generously to many devotees on betel-nut bark plates.
