Manmatha varusham Avani Hastham is the 120 th Tirunakshatram of Mukkur Srimadh Azhagiasingar, the 44th jeer of Sri Ahobila Muth. The Brindavanam of HH is adjacent to Dasavathara sannidhi Srirangam. The Utsavam commenced on 11th September 2015 and concludes on Avani hastham which falls on 15th September 2015.
In Srirangam everyone has a personal link with this Azhagiasingar who united people across all sections of society when he undertook the construction of the Rajagopuram at the ripe old age of 84 and successfully completed it. Today Srirangam is synonymous with Rajagopuram. It was at Dasavathara sannidhi that Srimadh Azhaghiasingar stayed till He attained paramapadam at 98.
Dasavathara sannidhi still vibrates with azhagiasingar’s energy and residents living in the area talk of those days of gopuram construction and how HH used to take personal interest of anyone who came near him . The 120th Tirunakshatram celebrations started on 11/9/2015 .Morning and evening several swamis did Veda parayanam and prabhandha parayanam. On 13th evening Ubha.Ve. Mukundagiri Ananthapadmnabhachariar swami spoke about Srimadh Azhaghiasingar’s atmagunams with special emphasis on swami’s ‘Hastha Visesham’. Giving is a quality which few are endowed with. A true daani is like Karna who gave everything totally willingly. Next morning there was abook release function at Mukkur Azhaghiasingar’s Brindavanam. Cultural programmes were organized in the evenings . Children performed not for a big audience but as an offering to Azhaghiasingar. The highlight was the dance-drama performed by the students of Smt.Revathi Muthuswami of Srirangam Bharatha natyalaya fame.
The script was written by Sakthi Saran(Sri.K.K.Narasimhan) and his mother and wife were honoured. This was enacted during Rajagopura samprokshanam thirty years back The songs sung by Smt. Bhuvana who was a child at that time, was sung by her as an adult accompanied by her son on the moresing. Most of the participants were not even born at the time of Rajagopuram samprokshanam 30 years back. But we look at the mighty gopuram everyday and to take part in its construction through mime and action was indeed a bhaghiam. The child who did the role of Mukkur Azhagiasingar reminded us of the Mahan and His showering of mantrakshathai. The dance teacher, her dedicated teaching, her bhakthi towards Azhagiasingar and giving due recognition to everyone is a lesson we need to learn. For those of us who were not present that day it was like travelling on the ‘Time-Machine’. Each day there were special prasadam offerings to Dasavathara Perumals and to the three Azhagiasingars whose brindavans are close by.
