30th March was the fourth day of Pallava utsavam at Kanchi Varadaraja Perumal koil. At about 11.00 a.m. Pranatharthihara Varadan followed by Varadan with Ubhayanachimars stopped by at Swami Desikan sannidhi and gave Srisathari maryadhai before proceeding to the hundred pillar mandapam to listen to the 4th day’s reading of Hasthigiri Mahatmyam.
This year Thathachariars of Tiruputkuzhi have the privilege of ‘purana patanam’. The manuscript is handed over to the swami after flowers, garland, sandal paste, Perumal theertham and Srisathari are given . The manuscript is returned and the reading begins after thaniyan anusandhanam. Today’s matter was the arrival of Punyakoti vimanam and the benefits of seeing it. The greatness of Kanchi mahakshetram, the creation of ‘Anantha-Saras’, the benefits of bathing in its water and performing nityanushtanam was talked about. Brahma worshipped Varadan who appeared from the homa kundam on a Sunday in the month of Chaitra on Chaturdasi when the star Hastham was in ascendance. Brahma worshipped Him in Kruthayugam, Gajendran worshipped Him in Trethayugam and Brihaspathi in Dwaparam. Adiseshan worships Him in Kaliyugam. Such then is the greatness of this mahakshetram.
At about 2.00 p.m. perfumes and perfumed flowers and pallavams were offered as also the shawl of jasmines. Then at about 6.00p.m. the seven blue screens were removed and this was followed by Tiruaradhana, Theertham, Srisathari and prasada viniyogam. Thereafter Pranatharthihara Varadan went in an open palanquin to ‘kanadi-arai’ and Varadan with ubhayanachimars joined Him after purappadu in Sannidhi Street. Additional treat today was the darshan of Yathothkari Perumal in chapparam in the morning and on the simha vahanam in the evening.
