Durmukhi Aadi Asvini (July 27th 2016) was the commencement of Andal’s Tiruvadi Pooram at Kanchi Varadaraja Perumal koil. Andal Sannidhi located in the inner prakaram where Nrisimhan sannidhi, Vishvaksena sannidhi, Dhanvantri and Malayala Nachiyar Sannidhies are located. Cleaning up of the sannidhi started last week itself and the place was decorated with kolams. On 27th evening at about 5.30 Andal emerged from Her sannidhi dressed in a pink vastram with brown border. She wore a golden shenbhaga malai as also pearls and corals and what stood out was the big Tirumangalyam. Her long braid was covered with golden jadai and She wore other hair accessories like rakodi, chandran, sooryan and a gem studded tiara. As She came looking like a radiant creeper covered with fragrant flower garlands of Champaka, jasmines, tuberose etc. everyone prostrated before Her. All the sannidhis were kept open during purappadu. She went upto Tiruvadi koil at the end of Sannidhi Street. She accepted the Vedams and Arulicheyal chants. She was offered harathi at Tondaradipodi. At Andal Sannidhi the swing was kept in readiness and devotees enjoyed the sight of their beloved swinging to the music played by the temple musicians. After this the curtains were drawn and were opened in about 10 minutes to reveal Her infront of Moolavar Andal clad in light green silk. The Arulicheyal goshti offered verses from 4000 divya prabhandham. After satrumurai theertham , Srisathari and prasadhams were distributed.
