The Sudarshana Chakram is the mighty weapon of Lord Sriman Narayana and has many auspicious attributes associated with it. Swami Desikan most eloquently summarises the characteristics of the mighty Chakram in both the Sudarshana Ashtakam as well as the Shodasayudha Stotram. The mighty Jwala is the aspect of Jwala Nrisimhar who destroyed Hiranyakashipu and therefore, is resident in the Sudarshana Chakram. The Sudarshana Chakram has healing characteristics. Legend has it that Swami Desikan composed the Sudarshana Astakam to help the people of a village stricken by the plague epidemic. Every month on the day of Chitra Nakshatram, Sri Sudarshana Homam and Thirumanjanam to Sri Sudharshana Chakrathazhwar are being performed at Sri Balaji Mandir, Dombivli.
This year Sri Sudarshana Jayanthi falls on Sunday the 2nd of July, 2017. With the paripoorna anugraham of Srimath Sri Srimushnam Andavan, the temple is celebrating the Jayanthi with Japam, Maha Sudarshana Homam and Thirumanjanam to Utsavar Sri Sudarshanar from morning 9 am. Devotees in and around Mumbai may make it convenient to participate and take the blessings of Sri Sudarshanar on His Jayanthi day.
