On August 6, 2017; Hevilambi Varusha Aadi Uthiradam Sri Alavandar Thirunakshatram was celebrated grandly at Kanchi Varadaraja Perumal koil. Sri Varadan and His Consorts are in Kanadi-arai since Ekadashi.  In the evening at about 6.00  Varadan along with His Consorts did the rounds of Sannidhi Street and after returning to the temple went around Azhwar Tiruchutru stopping by Nammazhwar Sannidhi and Manavalamamunigal sannidhi before reaching Sri Bashyakarar sannidhi. Alavandar was waiting outside Bashyakarar sannidhi to receive Varadan who was in sarvalankaram to attend the Tirunakshatram of His Favourite Yamunacharya of  ‘Sottai vamsam’.

After offering Harathi Perumal’s garland and srisathari were presented to Alavandar. Then Perumal entered Bashyakarar sannidhi followed by Alavandar. Kshema Thaligai was offered and devotees were given prasadam(kesari and curd rice).

After this Prabhandhanusandhanam and Tiruvaradhanam took place concluding with sattrumurai. After this everyone got Theertham, Srisathari and six kinds of prasadam. Immediately afterwards Perumal with Ubhaya nachimars and Alavandar doing pranamams facing Perumal came to Swami Desikan sannidhi where offerings were made and then stood near the dwajasthambam to listen to the arulicheyal goshti followed by Vedic chants. The completely co-ordinated notes of The Vedas filled the air with auspiciousness and chants from Stotra Ratnam, Sri Chathuslokhi and Swami Desikan’s stotras were a delight for the ears and the wordings brought tears in our eyes. How lucky we are to be Alavandar’s shishyas!

Ghata Harathi and fruits were offered at Todaradipodi and then Varadan headed for Andal sannidhi for exchange of garlands along with Alavandar. Then They came in pradakshinam stopping at the foot of Hasthigiri where Alavandar received Perumal’s garland and then Perumal was seen off by Alavandar at ‘kanadi-arai’ while Yamuna muni proceeded along Alavandar Prakaram or Madapalli prakaram to Sri Bashyakarar sannidhi.
