On December 5, 2013; Vijaya Varusha Karthigai Pooradam, the second day of Sri Paduka Sahasra Avathara utsavam was celebrated at Ul Desikan Sannidhi, Srirangam. The parayanam started at 7.15pm and went on for an hour. It started with “Vidhividhitha saparya” Swami Desikan’s verse on Srirangam, the verses on Tirumalai, Kanchipuram and Thirunarayanapuram. Paddhathis 10-14 were covered today, the Paddhathis covered were Sringara Paddhathi, Sanchara Paddhathi, Pushpa Paddhathi, Paraga Paddhathi and Nadha Paddhathi. There are 32 Paddhathis in Sri Padhuka Sahasram. Upanishads talk about 32 kinds of dhyanams and there are 32 ways to attain acharyan, that is why Swami Desikan has created 32 Paddhathis.
Padhuka Prabhavam is such that even Nityasuris cannot do complete justice to it. Swami Desikan says in one of the slokams that a fish which lives only in the sea still cannot gauge its entire length and breadth. Even the great Hanuman who crossed the ocean could not have measured its depth. Maybe the Manthara mountain used for churning the ocean of milk would have seen the depth of the ocean but there was Narayana as Koorma underneath. Likewise it is not possible to gauge acharya mahimai. All we can do is offer our dandavath pranamams.
SriRangavasis are fortunate to be able to chant the beautiful verses created by Swami Desikan sitting at the feet of Swami Desikan in Srirangam temple. The prasadam offered to Perumal and Swami Desikan was Chitrannam and sugared puri and all the devotees were rewarded with these tasty offerings once the parayanam was over.
