Srirangam Namperumal Bhoopathi Thirunal Utsavam Day 7 Evening Purappadu – Thirushivikai

Yesterday, 10 February, 2014,Vijaya Thai Mrighaseersham; is 7th day of Bhupathi Tirunal. There is no purappadu in the morning and NamPerumal gave  sevai in Kanadi arai till 12.00 p.m.  Day-7 is the day Nel-alavu , measuring of paddy takes place. NamPerumal with Ubhaya Nachimars left for tirukottaram that is the granary at 6.30p.m. The doors of the granary are kept open and Nel (paddy) is kept heaped up. NamPerumal wearing the famous Vimana padhakam and Pandian kondai with Ubhaya Nachimars faces the granary. Using a golden measure called marrakal the paddy is measured  1 marrakal, then 10 marrakals and then in multiples of ten. When a crore is reached NamPerumal is satisfied that the granary is full and no one would have to go humgry.

 He then comes out on the Uthira Veedhis in poon (flower ) ther covered by Tirushivikai. Since NamPerumal is with Nachimars the pace is kept slow.  Prior to the purappudu the streets are readied with sprinkling of water generously and SriRangam men are as adept if not more than the women in making kolams.  After Purappadu Nam Perumal returns via Ranga Ranga gopuram and reaches Thayar sannidhi  to report to Thayar about His granary inspection.  Tiruvehndi kaapu (Mangala Harathi) takes place.  After this Tirumanjanam takes place in Golu mandapam and it is past midnight when NamPerumal returns to Kanadi arai.
