Today is a holy day in the history of SriVaishnavism. It is Panguni Pushyam.108 years back on this day avatharam of Thirukkudunthai Srimath Andavan happened at Karukudi. The year was Prabhava corresponding to the English year 1907. He was named as SrinivasaRaghavan but was better known as” Kannan Swami”. His discourses and kalakshepams were extraordinary and captivated everyone, the scholar and the layman alike.He was called to Sanyasashrama on 5th April 1963 (Shukla Dwadashi,Makham) and was given the name Vedantha Ramanuja Mahadesikan.His was a golden period in the history of SriRangam Srimath Andavan Ashramam. People were astounded by His profound knowledge and by His walking to places as distant as Badrinath. He covered about 30,000km by foot and established temples, ashrams, conducted yagyas, samprokshanams and continuous kalakshepams.He observed 26 chathurmasyams and was called to Thirunadu on Vibhava Krishna Panchami (10.04.1989).
On April 9th 2014 Srimath Andavan’s Tirunakshatram was celebrated appropriately at Periya Ashram SriRangam where His Brindavanam is situated. Several devotees took part in the Thirunakshatram and were blessed with Perumal theertham, Sripadha theertham and Sripadhukas.
